Physicians are Raving About the Benefits of Pairing truSculpt iD Skip to content

Non-invasive body sculpting is a billion-dollar industry that is expected to reach $9.1 billion by 2024.¹ In particular, body and muscle sculpting are rising in popularity among individuals who realize that diet and exercise alone are not producing the body they truly desire. In a recent clinical study, several patients received paired treatments with truSculpt® iD, which induces lipolysis, along with truSculpt® flex, which promotes muscle strengthening, toning, and firming.

According to New York City dermatologist Neil S. Sadick, MD, founder and President of Sadick Dermatology and a Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College,

We can now offer a complete body sculpting solution in a simple treatment protocol. The results are comprehensive body contouring.2

The success of this new protocol is attributed to using truSculpt iD, the first FDA cleared RF device for lipolysis, in conjunction with truSculpt flex, the only bio-electrical muscle stimulation device with multi-directional stimulation to facilitate muscle sculpting.

Stephen J. Ronan, MD, who is a Danville, CA-based plastic surgeon, explains that “truSculpt iD uses multiple 2 MHz monopolar RF handpieces to selectively target and increase the temperature of subcutaneous fat without excessively increasing the temperature in the dermis.” He further explains that “a truSculpt iD treatment takes just 15 minutes, and results are typically achieved after one session. Fat apoptosis occurs post-treatment for up to 60 days, with peak fat cell death seen at 30 days.” Accordingly, in Dr. Ronan’s practice, an average fat reduction of 23.5% is typically observed after a single 15-minute treatment3. Moreover, truSculpt iD offers versatility with six handpieces, enabling physicians to treat more body areas in less time. This device makes it far more convenient and slightly less expensive in terms of disposables. It’s fast, reliable, and user-friendly. RF is colorblind, so it can be used on all skin types, all year round. Dr. Ronan says.² Another key feature of truSculpt iD is that the procedure is relatively painless and comfortable for the patients.

David J. Goldberg, MD, JD, the Director at Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of NY/NJ, supports these statements by mentioning that fat reduction technologies have made great strides as “twelve years ago, we saw the beginning of non-invasive fat reduction with CoolSculpting. We have also seen advances and multiple devices cleared since then, such as SculpSure and Vanquish, along with multiple other devices.” He further states that

Michael Karavitis, Ph.D., who is the EVP and CTO of Cutera, led the development of the novel muscle sculpting device, the truSculpt flex. Dr. Karavitis indicates that this unique and new technology has several distinct advantages when compared to other competitive devices, as unlike other electro-magnetic muscle stimulation devices, truSculpt flex provides a uniform distribution of bio-electrical current directly to motor neurons to induce intense muscle contractions with low energy levels. As a result, the maximum intensity will never reach 100%. What this means for the practices is that the doctor can continually challenge the targeted muscles as the patient becomes stronger, resulting in better muscle sculpting over time. He also says that

handpiece placement is simple, and we can treat eight body areas at one time, which significantly increased patient throughput of truSculpt flex over other devices on the market.”²

Michael Somenek, MD, a facial plastic surgeon in Washington, DC., states that

the benefits of truSculpt flex compared to other muscle toning devices on the market is it can treat more areas per session, and the treatment takes just 45 minutes.
Dr. Somenek’s practice was the first site in the US to begin using truSculpt iD paired with truSculpt flex. He states, “the ultimate goal in non-invasive body sculpting is to target fat and stimulate the muscle.” “These two devices are complimentary and pairing truSculpt iD and truSculpt flex clearly demonstrates the benefits of utilizing both devices.”²
Dr. Somenek performs one iD treatment, followed by a series of four to six truSculpt flex treatments, administered twice a week for two to three weeks, to generate intense contractions in the treated area. Most patients begin seeing results after eight weeks, with maximum improvements visible at twelve weeks. He offers truSculpt flex maintenance sessions for a booster treatment once every three months to consistently stimulate the area. “These results can be maintained for the long term,” he adds.²

Christopher Asandra, MD, the medical director of AsandraMD in Beverly Hills, CA, explains that integrating and marketing truSculpt® flex as well as truSculpt flex has been quite easy, as he sparks the interests of both existing and prospective patients using e-blasts and social media. He also emphasizes the importance of using social media to show the actual procedures, where he demonstrates how quick, effective, and painless the procedures are by posting videos of satisfied, consenting patients and even staff members receiving treatments. Dr. Asandra suggests that “treating your staff also gives them a better understanding of what your patients will be experiencing, in turn enabling them to provide better care.” He says that the return on investment has been incredible, and as awareness, as well as excitement regarding body contouring, steadily increases, the demand for this type of paired treatment will continue to boom.
